HOUSE FOR DUMMIES
House as a minor subject is a dance class for beginners focusing mainly on house dancing.
House originated as a freestyle dance, which emerged as a fusion of many styles in house clubs in New York. It consists of fast, rhythmic feet movement, upper-body flow and a lot of moves down on the floor. We work with full body warm-up, isolations, basic steps, easy choreographies, freestyle and a lot of fun challenges. House dancing is a pretty intense workout.
Often the training will be structured as a typical dance class with mirrors, but we will also try to promote improvisation and the exchange between two or moe dancers. Students with dancing as a major subject are typically already being taught house, so certain overlaps may occur – but they will generally be considered extra in-depth training of this style, and with a more playful approach than in the major subject.
Sometimes we warm up with simple yoga exercises.
Your MINOR SUBJECT gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in a different discipline than your MAJOR SUBJECT – thus giving you a wider perspective on the many possibilities within sports.
At Gerlev we have gathered some of the country’s best and most engaged teachers.
